The Sacred Valley is the area between the town of Pisac and the Wonderful Citadel of Machu Picchu. On the way, we can find other significant towns like Coya, Calca, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo, the Corn City.
It has a moderate climate: In rainy season, November through March, temperatures range between 10 and 22 degrees C (51 to 72 F). In dry season, April through October, temperatures range between 5 and 20C (41 and 68 F). Its name comes as a result of the exceptional conditions it provides. For its good warm climate, the fertility of the soil, its varied and complex flora and fauna, its special beauty and the looming presence of its majestic snowy peaks.
Its streams feed the waters of the originally named Willca-Mayuc or Vilcanota River that runs the length of the valley.
In ancient times it was identified as the representation of the Milky Way on earth seen as the Cosmic Serpent,
the ritual axis of our Andean Culture.
